I Love January

I think I'm one of the few people I know that really loves January.  I love the quietness after a busy 2 plus months of holiday craziness.  I love the cold and the possibility of snow.  I love that my kids don't have much sports stuff going on, so our schedule is rather calm.   I love dark, cozy nights with candles and homemade desserts.  I love cold weather clothes too.  I guess because I grew up in the deep south where we really never had a true winter, the cold is still novel to me.  I never saw a real snow until I was 18 years old going to college in Oklahoma (romantically, this was the first date I ever had with my husband.)  The snow was like a sign from God!  I still love the clean, whiteness of waking up to a winter wonderland.  Everything looks so new and clean....just like God makes us.
Anyway, the day after Christmas we woke-up here in NC to a beautiful 6 inches of snow!  This is a pretty big snow for us and an early snow too.  I wasn't able to get out in it much being 30 weeks pregnant but I love seeing the kids enjoy it.  I love staying inside too and making homemade hot chocolate for everyone.  We did have coats, gloves and ski bibs everywhere and my laundry load increased for a few days, but it was worth it.  Hopefully we'll get another good snow this winter.

Me and 3 of my kidos after carefully taking a little walk.  Of course, my 12 year old had to hit me with a snow ball!

Ellie, my most Norwegian looking girl of the bunch,
loved the snow more than my other girls.  I think she was out in it a total of 6 hours straight!
My husband took the big kids sledding down a whooper of hill a few miles away and of course they had a pretty fierce snowball fight, but Anna survived!
The hill by our house was perfect for my younger set to sled down.  Last year, I got to sled too, but my husband wouldn't let me this year : )

  1. It looks like you had a wonderful time. Believe it or not in Kansas where I am we have not had any snow on the ground.

  2. Soooo fun.

We live in the south and rarely have snow. We went to my parent's house even further south and it snowed at OUR house on Christmas for the first time in history (almost). We got some flurries at my parents but my kids were so disappointed they missed the white Christmas at home. :(

Hoping for another snow this year. :)

  3. What a fun time in the snow. My kids love the snow. We have a big hill behind our house so they can't wait to go sledding.
