I'm Not Gonna Lie......It's Hard

Reading time with Mom......how we start our homeschool day

Yes,  Homeschooling 5 different grades (my 4th grader was taking this picture) and having a newborn and a toddler, is hard.  But nothing ever worth anything is easy, right?  At least that's what I keep telling myself.  I've never had 2 little ones that aren't walking before.  I have had chidren closer in age before but with Mattie having DS, it's really more like a 14 month age difference at this point.  I know there are Moms out there who have done this and yes, I've done it before, but I'm not going to pretend it's easy.  So, here has what's been hard lately and sometimes quite funny:
1. Nursing a newborn while at the same time teaching Algebra.
2.  Trying to keep Matthew from destroying the house while we homeschool.  His new thing is throwing whatever he can find down the stairs.
3. Starting school before 10am, which is about the time we are all fed and dressed. At that point, I've lost most of the children to the back yard and the spring weather.
4. I've been totally forgetting things on our schedule.  Like, "Oh no, you have soccer practice that started 10 min. ago."  Or "who is that lady at the door?.....oh yeah, Mattie has speech therapy today!"
5.  And as you can see from above, fitting all of us on the sofa for reading time.  Of course, no child wants to sit on the floor!

  1. Thank you so much for sharing the honest reality of life ... as a homeschooling mother with 6 kids, 10 and under, I totally get what you are saying. Children are God's best gifts ... even in these hard moments and those days when we feel like nothing will come together. Sometimes, I feel like I've lost my mind that I had so many kids so quickly b/c the truth is, it IS hard. But, that never means it isn't worth it and it is for that exact reason that sometimes I can really see why Children are God's best gifts ... b/c of how they put our focus on Him in those hard moments! God bless you and your precious family ... that sweet newborn in your arms is definitely contagious!! : )

  2. #1...check, did that today
#2...ummm, ours isn't the stairs...it's playing in the potty
#3...I'm smiling if we are all fed and ready at 9:45, but we've started doing math, bible, and history still in our PJs, before breakfast...don't know why that makes a difference, but it does
#4...same Ballet schedule for 2 months now, but I'm still asking, daily, "Who has Ballet tonight? At what time?"
#5...gave up on that one, everyone gets on their beds, and I plop down on the floor in the hallway (Littles usually fall asleep while unread)

So excited to find your blog, looking forward to reading!

  3. I know what you mean on number 5 for sure! No one wants to sit on the floor and they ALL want to sit by mommy! I'm usually nursing Kenli, have Kels on one side, Kar on the other and Gavin laying on top of the couch A.K.A on top of my head :) Wouldn't have it any other way....except a couple more thrown in there :)

  10. Wonderful picture!!! So Real . . . and so sweet!! I appreciate you being honest. This lifestyle we have chosen IS HARD. As homeschooling mothers we must be willing to die to ourselves and work hard in the home and serve our husbands and children all day long. I am wondering if the young girls coming up today (as in our daughters and daughter in laws) will be willing to make the sacrifices?????? I pray that they will! Thanks for sharing from the heart. i love your blog!

  12. Oh my I love this post. I don't know how i found your blog other than the Lord knew i needed to read it. I had oneof these days yesterday. I just had baby number 8 3 days before you had number 10. I was in the middle of schooling the children yesterday when we got a phone call that someone wanted to look at hte house. By the way we just put the house onthe market. So i got a little stressed to say the least. Then last night i read your blog and realized idon't have to be perfect and it is difficult to homeschoola nd raise all these little ones but it is the right thing to do. So Mama of 10 I am glad to meet you and I will visit often.

  13. If this were facebook I would "like" this post! :) Your honesty is a breath of fresh air to this fellow tired mama of many. :) I wouldn't change a thing, but sometimes hard is an understatement. :)
