"Trim Healthy Mama" Shopping

My husband snapped this pic of me last week leaving the grocery store.....this is basically the story of my life.

So I thought in the spirit of grocery shopping and the spirit of the Trim Healthy Mom book, I would give y'all some shopping tidbits that have helped me.  Again, if you haven't read the book, I would highly recommend it. If you've started the book or want to just eat healthy in general, here is a list of things I would suggest getting right off.  Some foods are truly super foods, meaning that they pack a lot of punch for a little amount of calories and carbs.  Also, some foods are available only at certain stores and are considerably cheaper at other stores.  Of course if you don't have these stores near you or just can't find what I'm talking about, there is always ordering online.  Here goes your basic list to get started on a trim healthy mom lifestyle.........

1. Whey Protein.  This must be whey protein isolate, not concentrate. The best brand is Swanson's Premium that you can get online.  Also Jay Robb is easy to find at Kroger and Whole Foods if you don't want to order online.  It is just as good, but a good bit more expensive.

2.  Coconut Oil.  For cooking, Louana Brand that you can get a Walmart is good, but for eating, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods have an organic that is great.

3.  Stevia.  Nunaturals has changed their formula, but I still like it and it's basically pure stevia.  Truvia is good as well and easy to find.  It may take awhile to get used to the taste, but don't give up.

4.  Raw almonds.  Great to snack on and making almond flour and almond butter is so easy if you have a good food processor or high end blender.

5. Cocoa powder and 85% dark chocolate bars.

6.  Oolong Tea.   Kind of hard to find if you don't have an Asian store near you.  I order mine from Swansons when I get my protein powder. It has great health benefits and ups metabolism.

7.  Omega 3 eggs.  These are full of protein and pack a lot of nutrients in their shells. Walmart has the best price on these.

8.  O% fat Greek plain yogurt.  Just don't buy anything but plain Greek yogurt anymore. You can add all fruit jam (Polaner) or berries and nuts.  So much less sugar and Greek has twice as much protein.

9.  Frozen and fresh berries.  This are the best fruits because of they are low on the glycemic index and pack tons of antioxidants.

10. Hemp and Chia seeds.  These are so good for you and can be added to just about anything to up the nutrient content.  I get both of these from Whole Foods.

Well, this should get you started!  Anyone want to add to my must have THM list? : )

  2. I bought the ebook after you wrote about it last time. I was really getting into a groove until a stomach bug left me wanting nothing to do with any of these foods for weeks. So, thanks for the inspiration...I'll get back on the horse :)
Where do you buy your Nunaturals? I didn't catch the Oolong tea part when reading...I'll have to order! When I was in college, an Asian restaurant used to sell it to me in the little carry out boxes. It got me through many long night study sessions.
You look great-no one would ever believe you have ten kids!

    1. Hi Adri, thanks for the compliment : )
I get my Nunaturals at Whole Foods. I've also finally ordered some xylitol and i'm liking that too.
      blessings!

    2. I found the tea at my local Safeway and the NuNaturals at my local Fred Meyers. I was able to find all locally except the Glucomannan. That I had to order online but had shipped to the Super Supplements store for free. I do not like to order stuff and have it shipped to my house...bad past results.

  3. I'm needing some inspiration right now! I will go and look for the post you wrote about the book before! I'm 7 months pregnant and am excited toget back in to shape after this baby comes! I've heard great things about this book!

  4. You look FABULOUS! And thanks for the list. I've been wanting to use stevia for a while, I guess it's worth giving a try.

    1. You'll really like the book. It has so much good information!
I would start with cutting out as much sugar as you can, even "natural sugar" like fruits, juices, honey, etc.
Then just starting eating more protein and less carbs as well. This is what I did initially while I was reading the book and trying to understand how the plan works.
      Blessings,!

  8. Hi Rebecca, I think I'm finally on the verge of ordering the book, especially because 1) you look even trimmer (in your pictures) now that you're doing THM, and 2) my dear friend Brandy is starting it. Thanks for these ideas.

  9. It's true, I tell people you have ten kids and their jaw drops. You look amazing! I love THM, except for the desserts. LOL. I am really doing bad, I have had potatoes THREE times this week. Weight Gain. God help.

  10. Love THM!! Your list looks great but I would add that I like Xylitol much better than Stevia, but it really is a preference thing. The only other thing to add is flax meal...you do use it in a lot of the recipes. This new way of looking at food is awesome and more than just a "weight loss" plan!!

  11. I recommend seaweed, especially Kombu which you can add to soups as a thickener and flavor enhancer.
First, you'll have to break it up into little pieces otherwise the addition will be noticeable to picky eaters. I
think it's a good source of additional protein and calcium. Love your blog! thanks for sharing all your mothering "adventures". God bless!

  12. Hi Rebecca, I love the pic of your family, You all look very happy. I'm from Australia and I've joined several of the THM Facebook sites. I tried to find out how i can receive a coupon code for the new THM website so that I can save some money. Do know how I might get it?

  13. No, I do not know anything about the code. So sorry.

  14. Just wanted to mention that Swansons has now changed their Premium Whey so that it has concentrate in it as well as isolate. I've switched to the THM whey when it's in stock. If it's not, then I buy NOW Whey isolate from Amazon.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Do you find the NOW whey similar to the THM product? When I was researching, I narrowed it down to those 2 as well! But I went with THM bc I wasn't sure!?

      Delete
    2. They are similar but I like the texture of the THM better so I only buy the NOW when THM is out of stock. Blessings!

  15. I love your list! Very helpful! I'd add unsweetened almond milk, egg whites, and cottage cheese. I never had those things in my house, ever lol! Now I use them all the time! Esp for the smoothies, which are a huge part of our life, and egg whites for the E treats :) I've sent your blog to all my new THM friends bc it's so simple and encouraging! Beautiful family!!
